‘ Essays on music: (What I’m listening to & Persuasions) ‘

If you don’t know what to listen to or how to feel this Fall/Winter - Let me tell you exactly what. Embracing the cold whists of breeze in a summer city and it’s forbidden feel is to be embraced. For me, being in a scarf on a consistent basis in Los Angeles is my one way ticket to unpacking a surrounding weirdness. How It Feels In The Cold (my latest spotify endeavor) is to walk home at late hours, be still, mourn or maybe reminisce on the ghost of our christmas’ past. It’s to simply block out the melancholy silence and rather fill in blanks with noise.

Instrumentals of a said Winter’s weirdness kicks off with Track 1: an intentional placement of She’s an Easy Rider by Tucker Zimmerman. Strings are the singular holder to the shaping of my cold months and essential to navigating my very own Fall’s slowness. Truthfully, the cold period for me in 2024 represents a retrospective time to get a last grip. Much like scrambling for pieces to set ones self up for complete success in the upcoming year that is around the corner.

‘See her out there in the distance
Moving slow
She's an easy rider
And she don't need no place to go’

She’s an  Easy Rider _ Tucker Zimmerman

‘Face full of rainwater
Now I am contented
Always the first waters
They were my protection’

Chrysalis _ Pram

Scrambling for quick repairs, I find that lyrical reminders to move slow or to describe a woman who seemingly can suffice without a grip is a tempting tune for a girl like me. Strings are struck in a consistent guitar cord, complimentary to Zimmerman’s shaky and loving tone for his easy rider. A start-off race feel is what I’d describe the track.

Adjacent to the track, my current ending title on the mix is Chrysalis by Pram - the median track off of 1994 Meshes EP. Much like Pram’s infamous british instrumental pop sounds, Chrysalis follows a per-usual soft drums and twinkling duo. Death is bestowed upon an apple in which lyrics read: “I’m always the worm who loved the apple so much”. In it’s own ways, the cold has almost presented it’s role of being worm, for warm blooded girls like me to be fully eaten by the drop of temperature. All in which is enough to block, push, and whip you around. Waiting for the right waves to crash over you? Make your heatless day’s one to be followed with soft and simultaneously fast enough tracks to think... Big thinker vibes is the entirety of my Fall -> Winter transitions.

“We take pics and everyone hates us for it
They love to stare, but we look hot, we don’t care
Addicted to the likes and the comments, I don’t care
I’ll say it with my chest
My perfect tits and lipgloss lips”

All of high importance, the trio of Diet Rave Star sings in insane appeal for girls who act a fool off the liquor. I’ve been sitting long and hard on New York’s latest and can’t shake the idea of never not playing this track alone.

Off of their late 2024 EP “I DIED AND THEN I RAVED”, track “I DO IT BETTER” is negligence for the male species. For what I take it, it’s a nudge reminiscent of a careless push to the boys actually. Especially in a party scene in where most come to mog, pull a fit-check, and never talk. Not even to their homeboy they came with. It’s a highlighter track, drawing down fact that raver girls are bound to do it better, look better, and party harder. A negligence only the truly hottest, energetic, pull of all life can sing. This EP, and track are a reason to pre-game to the strongest ideals, talk to random girls, and be self-entitled. I’d like to say in moderation.
